Autism Friendly Movies

Families in Western New York who are dealing with autism and related conditions have plenty of challenges in life.

For one day this month, going to the movies need not be one of them.

A special screening of a film will be shown at the AMC Maple Ridge 8, 4276 Maple Road, Amherst.

During the special autism-friendly screening, the AMC movie theater will have house lights raised, sound lowered, and will lift rules against families bringing their own snacks to the show, so that children and families can enjoy treats — gluten-and casein-free ones — that they are comfortable with.

In addition, no previews or advertisements will be shown before the film, and the movie house will lift its restrictions on showtime behavior, allowing moviegoers to get up and move around, dance, shout or sing — within safe bounds.

HELP NEEDED:  We are in need of several adult leaders to be a part of our 10 a.m. Children’s Liturgy of the World team as aides. If you are interested please contact our office. You must take the Protecting God’s Children class and have a background check to volunteer with our youth. This ministry is a great way to serve the littlest ones of the parish and the time commitment is flexible with all materials provided.

ALL REGISTRATION FORMS & CLASS SCHEDULES ARE ON THE CALENDAR PAGE

See our F(3) FAMILY, FAITH & FUN Page for Families with Young Children

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a program for children from age 4 until they have made their First Eucharist.  If parents have a young child that you need to accompany to Children’s Liturgy, that’s helpful.  If the child becomes disruptive, please return to the vestibule area of the Church.  Disruptions can be distracting to the other children. We have a space
in the back of church to accommodate a child having a meltdown, or needing to play. Older children who have made their First Eucharist should remain in Church with their family.
We are always looking for older teens that would be willing to help the teams. If you feel called to serve in this ministry, please contact Mrs. Brennan.
