   Real Life Riches

Jesus said, "Beware! Don't be greedy for what you don't have. Real life is not measured by how much we own."
               Luke 12:15
  NLT

Think of your most prized possession. It could be a basketball trophy, a necklace given to you by your best friend, a drum set you saved for months to buy, or even a stuffed animal you carted around everywhere when you were a kid. Now place your most prized possession next to the person you love most. Which do you treasure more?

The answer seems obvious. However, many people live their lives as though things matter more than people. They spend their time and energy doing whatever allows them to buy the best "stuff", and yet stuff doesn't last into eternity. Only God and people do.

You are at a point where you're getting ready to make big decisions about your future. What you teasure most highly in your heart will affect how you choose to live your life. To make your life really count means investing it in something that lasts.

Investing your life in what lasts is the key to gaining true treasure - riches that can be stored in the heart.

Saint of the Month
Catholic saints are holy people and human people
who lived extraordinary lives. Each saint the Church
honors responded to God's invitation to use his or her
unique gifts. God calls each one of us to be a saint.

Saint Perpetua
&
Saint Felicity
died: 203
Feast Day March 7th

The martyrdom of Sts. Perpetua and Felicity is one of the most moving stories that followed the early persecution of the Church of Africa by the Emperor. Perpetua was a noble young woman of twenty-two, the mother of a young child. Felicity was her servant, expecting a child to whom she gave birth in her imprisonment. Both were preparing for their baptism when they were arrested and confined to prison. Perpetua's father, a pagan, urged his daughter to turn away from her faith and go free. Pointing to one of the household utensils, she said to him, "Do you see this vase, father? Can it be anything else? Neither can I ever be anything but a Christian."
In a dream Perpetua saw a great golden ladder reaching up to heaven, and after being assured she could climb to the top, she saw a tall shepherd surrounded by thousands of white robes. The shepherd said to her, " Welcome, child!" Strengthened by her vision, Perpetua refused to renounce her faith.
Perpetua and Felicity were condemned to die in the arena, consumed by wild beasts before a cheering crowd. During their imprisonment, they so impressed the officer in charge of the prison that he became Christian, too. Shortly before her death, Perpetua said, "Stand up for your faith and love one another. Don't let our sufferings frighten you." They died on March 7, 203.
